About

My name is Ricky Hill, I started this small-batch, local coffee company after losing my wife Amanda and son J.R. in a tragic car accident on Nov. 27th 2021. It began as a high school project with my youngest son—a way for us to spend time together, learn something new, and adjust to life after such a devastating loss.

Now that my son has graduated, I continue roasting because I truly enjoy coffee and love providing people with something far better than the bland, commercial options they’re used to. It’s more than just a business—it keeps me engaged, gives me purpose, and opens the door to share my Christian faith and my testimony of God’s faithfulness.

That’s why the brand is called Agathos GroundsAgathos is the Greek word for “good,” the language of the New Testament. Our tag verse is James 1:17: Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

Our logo features lilies and a raven, drawn from Jesus’ teaching in Luke 12:22–34, where He reminds us that God cares for all His creation—and in a special way, for His children. For me, it’s a daily reminder to trust Him for every need and to rest in His goodness.

About coffee:

Freshness First

We don’t stamp a “best by” date on our coffee—we mark a roasted on date, so you know exactly when your beans were brought to life. We roast fresh every week, in small batches that allow us to give each roast the personal attention it deserves. No mass production, just careful, hands-on roasting for a coffee experience you can taste.

Our Promise

Every bag is crafted to bring you the smoothest, most flavorful cup you’ve ever had—no matter how you take it. We invite you to taste it black before adding sweetener or cream, so you can experience the natural flavor notes in every sip.

Brewing Recommendation

Everyone enjoys their coffee a little differently, but we recommend 3 tablespoons of ground coffee per 2 cups(500 ml) of water for a balanced, rich brew.

Origin

Our beans are single-origin Colombian coffee from the Sierra Nevada region, roasted right here in the Home of the Blues—Memphis, Tennessee. From mountain farm to Memphis roaster, every step is about quality, care, and community.
